Getting people to your website is different these days than it was a year or two ago. Google’s algorithm has changed, and what worked 2 years ago to optimize your site to show up in search results can now get you flagged (e.g. thousands of backlinks, saturating your website pages with your keywords, etc.).

People also use the web differently now. We have Siri to ask our questions, or social media to spend our time on instead of just Google and news sites.

Getting people to find your site using paid ads is also more challenging, because we’re getting more sophisticated as web users. Ads are annoying, and most people know what’s an ad and what’s real content now.

So what’s a business to do in order to be found on the internet?

Show up in multiple places.

Having content on multiple platforms gets it exposed to people that may not have been searching for it otherwise, but find it interesting when they come across it. Plus, it still creates quality backlinks to your site, which does still work with Google (quality over quantity).

To save time, you can re-purpose your content by using it in different ways. For example, you can write a blog or article, then make it into a PowerPoint presentation, then an infographic and then a video for YouTube.

All of this can be done for free leveraging multiple platforms with your content. I use 3 platforms regularly:, Youtube and Powtoon.

I’ll explain each of these, and then I recorded a video to show you exactly how I use them so you have a clear idea.

Think of Slideshare like a YouTube for PowerPoint presentations. You can upload your PowerPoints or Keynotes and optimize the title and description as you would a YouTube video. This makes visually interesting and helpful information that people can find if searching for your topic on the web, or browsing through other presentations on Slideshare. You can showcase your expertise and then provide a link to your website for further information. Slideshare has hundreds of thousands of users daily, so you have more opportunity to be found by your target audience.

YouTube is the #2 search engine on the internet. Millions of people are on YouTube every day, and spend more time on it that most any other website on the internet. When you have  videos optimized with your keyword phrases, someone can find your video if they’re watching related videos, or if they’re simply doing a Google search. This can be a faster, easier way to get free traffic than trying to get your website to rank. The key is to make a video that’s compelling, concise and useful to your audience. At the end of your video and in the description, you want to direct people back to your website for more information or to get a free gift.

This is a very cool tool you can use to make animated videos, either for your YouTube channel or for explainer videos on your website. You can create a video with pre-made characters and music, and make a free short video. Or, you can upgrade your service to make longer videos and get access to more music and templates. This can be a fun and entertaining way to share information with your audience.

With each of these platforms, the most important thing is to have good content.

If your information is compelling, any platform you use can bring you traffic. Exploring examples on each of these platforms can give you ideas for how you or your team can use these in your web marketing.

When you utilize multiple platforms, you get your content in front of more people and create backlinks from credible websites to improve your search engine optimization. Understanding how to create different forms of content can be a time-saver, and it never hurts to be able to use free tools for it.
